MY PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING
Philosophy of Teaching
My philosophy of teaching believes that all children are unique individuals and they should be provided with a stimulating educational environment in the classroom where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. Furthermore, I strongly regard that teaching is not merely contributing to the development of subject knowledge only. The role of a teacher is more holistic. How the teacher conducts herself becomes a model to the learners. Especially with Generation Z students who are well equipped with technological advancement, teachers have the crucial responsibility of fulfilling multiple roles while integrating technology , without making them completely dependent on it.
I believe that as a teacher I should interact in an unbiased manner in the classroom .This could create a safe atmosphere for learning . As I believe , it's essential to understand the learning styles and attitudes of the learners as every classroom has it's own community.
As my core values for teaching, I believe in empathy, creativity, autonomy and safety. I hold an immense passion for teaching as it is a service that can mould lives. I regard Empathy as an indispensable quality in a teacher since teachers are dealing with hearts not just some robots. Personally, I strongly believe that the primary role of a teacher is not just to produce students who score high marks only instead the teacher should pay attention to their discipline, moral and social development. According to Vygotsky (1962), social interaction leads to the development of individual thoughts. Thus, I would prefer to include varied lesson based on interaction among students which can create an interactive environment in the classroom.
Also, I STRONGLY believe in Allama Iqbal's philosophy of teaching that emphasize that first and foremost , the good life must be a life of active effort and struggle . Especially , he emphasizes on creativity stating that it is a ''distinctive gift of man"
. Also , I perceive that education without discipline and moral ,upright character to be no education at all.
Most significantly, it is my conviction that my philosophy has evolved considerably during the brief period of my internship. I understood the significance of incorporating technology to connect with the students. I deem this to be an imperative response to the demands of today's advanced world that needs more resilient, adaptable ,and forward-thinking individuals. This in my belief will produce students who are equipped with essential skills for the digital age . In addition , I consider that as a teacher I will adopt progressive methodology whereby , I can make students learn gradually by mastering one stage and then proceeding on to the next.
Besides this , an education philosophy that I STRONGLY BELIEVE is the philosophy of Al Ghazzali that states that the students have a strong tendency of impersonation and they will probably gain from what the teacher does instead of from what he says (Al Ghazzali , 2005 ) which means that teachers should practice and teach what they know and not allow their work and behavior to contradict their words , because knowledge is comprehended through the mind , while it works through the eyes.
In conclusion ,I accept that teaching is a continuous commitment, therefore if I want to be an ideal teacher I have to be a life long learner.
